Antoine Benoit
A mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Antoine J.D. Benoit, 90, will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau.
Mr. Benoit will be laid to rest in the Istre Cemetery with Father Neil McNeil officiating.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings, today, Friday, June 29, from 12-9 p.m., with a rosary recited by Deacon Summers at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.
Mr. Benoit was called from this life June 28, 2012.
Antoine was born in Morse to the late Sidney Benoit and the late Eva Istre Benoit on November 15, 1921. He worked for Lee Vac Shipyard as a crane operator until his retirement. Antoine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. He enjoyed working in his garden and raising farm animals. He also loved dancing to French music and lending a helping hand to his friends and family. He was a creative handyman.
Antoine is survived by his beloved wife, Beulah Cormier Benoit of Mermentau; his two sons, Ruston L. Benoit of Carlyss and Hulin J. (Josie) Benoit of Morse; four daughters, Jean (Danny) Maynard, Peggy (Patrick) Miller, Judy (Bennett II) Guidry, and Diranda (Doug) Manuel, all of Morse; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Antoine also leaves behind to cherish his memory three siblings, Acey Benoit of Jennings, Ben Benoit of Joshua, Texas, and Mazie Caswell of Jennings.
Antoine was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Eva I. Benoit; his first wife, Bertha Thibodeaux Benoit; his brother, Nugie Benoit; and one sister, Zula Clement Hoffpauir.
Carrying Antoine to his eternal resting place in the Istre Cemetery will be Cheney Benoit, Daniel Maynard II, Timothy Maynard, Chad Thibodeaux, Bennett Guidry II, and Randy Bourque.
The Benoit family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and the staff of Pelican Pointe Nursing Home for the care of their father.
