A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Ruby Bergeaux, 91, on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Jules Catholic Church in Tee-Mamou.
Ms. Bergeaux will be laid to rest in St. Jules Cemetery with Father Blaine Clement officiating her services.
Ruby was called from this life on June 18, 2012.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 2:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass.
Ruby was born in Iota to the late Paul Miller and the late Marietta Simar Miller on April 29, 1921. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a resident of Evangeline for 60-plus years. Ms. Ruby was a member of St. Jules/St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Altar Society where she served as president for several years and a member of the Catholic Daughters and the American Legion Ladies Auxillary. She worked as a welder during World War II where she built ships for which she received a commendation. Ms. Ruby was a member of the Tee-Mamou Rosary Group which met at her house weekly when she could no longer drive. She loved to cook for her family, she loved to fish and she loved gardening. She liked to have coffee with her nieces and her neighbors. She was very dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Ms. Ruby leaves behind to cherish her memories four sons, Robert (Ethel Deshotel) Bergeaux of Jennings, Russell (Connie Richard) Bergeaux Jr. of Evangeline, Patrick (Pam Compton) Bergeaux of Lake Charles, and Leonard (Ann Nichols) Bergeaux of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Ms. Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Paul and Marietta S. Miller; her husband, Russell Bergeaux Sr.; her 10 siblings, Mabel, Virgie, Nettie, Hazel, Vinice, Grant, Leo, Lorrine, Juanita, and her twin brother Rufus; and her nieces and nephews.
The Bergeaux family wishes to thank JDLC, her nurses, and CNAs for her care. They would also like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Jennings American Legion Hospital, La. Hospice and Palliative Care, Dr. Patrick Griffith and all the friends and neighbors concerned for Ms. Ruby’s care.
Carrying Ms. Ruby to her eternal resting place in St. Jules Cemetery will be Scott, Rustyn and Thomas Bergeaux, Eric Deville, Tristan Babineaux and Stephen Aresement.
