ELTON – Residents here used a social media website to warn each other of a suspicious door-to-door salesman Thursday. Although police reportedly located the salesman and asked him to leave town, the conversation raises the question: “What should you do if a stranger knocks on your door?”

“Ask to see a permit,” Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff Ivy Woods said, noting that any door-to-door salesman must first obtain a permit from city hall or the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office.
