The Gulf Coast Hurricane Track Club qualified 10 competitors for the National Junior Olympics Track and Field when they traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn., on July 6. The athletes competed in the USATF Region VI meet held at Middle Tennessee State University. This meet was to qualify for the National Junior Olympics to be held July 23-29 in Baltimore, Md.

Following an extremely long period of preparation, these athletes endured cold and hot temperatures and rain. They have sacrificed opportunities to do other activities and even to participate in other sports. They have learned to demonstrate dedication, commitment, hard work and determination. They have also learned to do whatever it takes to become the best in their individual events.

Imani Coleman of Jennings recently competed in three events, claiming the regional champion honor in the 400-meter dash with one of the best times in the nation.
