Students have made parish proud
Once again, Jeff Davis Parish schools, especially its high school educators and students, have proven that they are some of the best in this state.
If you missed the news, in Wednesday’s edition of the Jennings Daily News, Superintendent of Schools David Clayton announced that the parish’s average ACT scores were the highest they had ever been. On top of that, the parish averages either matched or beat the state’s ACT averages, only falling behind in math by a tenth of a point.
With so many changes in our schools due to education reforms taking place across the state and country, administrators, educators and students are having to take on many new responsibilities or tweak how certain tasks were handled in the past. But Jeff Davis keeps proving it can meet any task the state throws its way with 120 percent effort. After all, last year, Jeff Davis placed eighth out of all school districts in the state for its school performance scores.
Sure, if you pick apart every classroom and school, you might find something you disagree with or believe could be improved. In the big picture, though, Jeff Davis has some of the best schools in Southwest Louisiana and the state for many reasons: the dedication of teachers; the perseverance of students; tremendous school involvement and support from parents and communities; businesses willing to sponsor campus functions, school groups and athletics; and the entire Jeff Davis Parish School Board, including employees, administrators and board members who truly care about the schools they oversee.
Obviously, what we are all doing in this community is benefiting our students. In the near future, those same students will benefit us as they take the education they received and head out into the workforce to become our future teachers, doctors, nurses, servicemen and women, and much more.
Kudos to the students who brought home great scores for themselves and the parish this year. You have made your parish proud and we look forward to seeing you make this new school year successful as well.
