Barbara Marie Mathews
It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Barbara Marie Mathews announces her passing from this life on Oct. 24, 2012. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings on Oct. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. in celebration of her life. Mrs. Mathews will be laid to rest in Parkview Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Alex Mathews. Father Celsius Offor will be officiating her services.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, from 5-9 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 31, visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings from 9 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass.
Barbara Marie was welcomed into this life by her beloved parents, Edgar and Edna Trahan Evans on Oct. 6, 1929. She was an exceptionally loving person who always wanted to help others. She worked as a housekeeper and caregiver most of her life. Barbara enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was very dearly loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Barbara is survived by her beloved daughters, Deborah (Charles) Davis of Fontana, Calif., and Lanette (Valentino) Lanier of Friendswood, Texas; one brother, Herbert Evans of Chicago; her sister, Freida Smith of Texas City, Texas; her five grandchildren, Charles Davis Jr., Anthony Davis, Julian Lanier, Christie Davis and Crystal Davis; and her great-grandson, Austin Jordan Davis.
Barbara now rests in Heaven with her beloved family who preceded her in death: her parents, Edgar and Edna T. Evans; her husband, Alex Mathews; four brothers, Edward, Eddie, Edgar and George Evans; and her three sisters, Birdie Evans, Ethel Broussard and Ada Capdeville.
