LAKE ARTHUR – It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Henry Matt announces his passing from this life on Oct. 9, 2012. He was 82 years of age. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Anthony Cemetery. Msgr. Ronald Groth will be officiating his services.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur. Visitation will resume on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.
Henry was born in Gueydan to the late David and Agnes Broussard Matt Jr. on Jan. 13, 1930. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Henry was a retired tug boat captain. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Henry is survived by his four sons, Leland Matt (fiancé Shelia Stroder) of Gueydan, Keith (Karen) Matt of Lake Arthur, Ray (Susan) Matt of Lake Arthur and Steven (Cathy) Matt of Gueydan; one daughter, Geraldine (Donavon) Winch of Pecan Island; his brother, William (Yvonne) Matt of Jennings; one sister, Irene Mire of Lake Arthur; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Henry now rests in Heaven with his beloved family whom preceded him in death: his wife, Verna Mae Bertrand Matt; his parents, David and Agnes B. Matt; two grandchildren, Chad Matt and Casey Blanchard; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Matt; his two brothers; and five sisters.
Carrying Henry to his eternal resting place in St. Anthony Cemetery will be Jacob Blanchard, Chris Blanchard, Joey Blanchard, Todd Matt, Chan Crochet and Joe LeBlanc. Honorary pallbearers will include Kirk Bellard and Kenneth Conner.
