Jennings Police Chief Todd D’Albor is warning residents to think twice before cashing a check that comes in the mail from another country claiming the recipient has won a prize or lottery.
A resident of Jennings recently reported receiving a check for $3,980 in the mail for winning a lottery in the United Kingdom. The check was accompanied by a letter that claimed the payment was a portion of the recipient’s winnings and instructed that the recipient deposit the check and send $1,995 directly to a tax agent to pay the taxes on the winnings.
