Lake Arthur – It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Paul M. Champagne announces his passing from this life on Oct. 30, 2012. He was 82 years of age. Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. honoring his life. Mr. Champagne will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Cemetery with Msgr. Ronald Groth officiating his services. He will be honored with full military rites.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur today, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, from 2:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral services.
Paul was born in Lake Arthur to the late Florine Champagne and the late Catherine Trahan Champagne on June 9, 1930. He served this country honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked for Superior Oil as an operator for over 44 years earning the profound respect of his fellow employees. Paul was known worldwide as a wood carver, specializing in duck decoys. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved cooking gumbo.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 56 beautiful years, Una Lanthier Champagne of Lake Arthur; two sons, Jeffery (Sarah) Champagne of Lake Arthur and Jude Champagne of Jennings; his two daughters, Paula C. (John) Broussard and Tina Champagne, all of Lake Arthur; four grandchildren, Chelsea, Katlin, Glia and Jacob; and one great-grand baby on the way.
Paul now rests in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Florine and Catherine Champagne; three sisters, Laura Broussard, Alice Pearson and Ethel McGarity; and his brother, Russell Champagne.
