The Red Cross is assisting the surviving victims of Monday night’s tragic fire on East Willis Street that claimed one life.

Jennings Fire Department Chief Hulin Theriot said Tuesday that the 11:30 p.m. fire had taken the life of Kenneth Riggs, 55, of Jennings, who was found in a wheelchair. When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed and took approximately 10 minutes to get under control. Initial reports led firefighters to believe two people were trapped in the house but Riggs was the only fatality.
