Robert Lane Easley, Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Lane Easley Sr. announces his passing on Oct. 5, 2012, while in Jennings American Legion Hospital. Mr. Easley was 86 years of age. Born to the late Cleon Ellis Easley and the late Florence Musselwhite Easley, this extraordinary man began his life on Dec. 17, 1925.
Mr. Easley served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Corporal Robert Lane Easley entered the Marine Corps on Feb. 18, 1943, in Shreveport. Following basic training, he completed four weeks of advanced training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., as a rifleman. Assigned to the 26th Marines, 5th Division, Corporal Easley served in the Pacific Region using the United States Fleet Port Base Activity at Sasebo, Japan, as a springboard for the repatriation of a multitude of Pacific Islands from the Japanese military. This World War II veteran was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps on April 6, 1946, receiving the Louisiana Medal of Honor. Following his military service, Robert attended college for drafting and began his career as a building contractor. He had a creative passion for building and working with his hands. He loved his work and enjoyed teaching his personal talents to others. He loved creating model buildings and has a wonderful display at the Tupper Museum here in Jennings. He taught area young people art lessons at the Summer Feeding Program in Jeff Davis Parish.
Robert was a good man and will be greatly missed.
