Lake Arthur – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wanda Kate Cormier Atkinson announces her passing from this life on Oct. 23, 2012, while in the comfort of her home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. She will be laid to eternal rest in Andrus Cove Cemetery with Msgr. Ronald Groth officiating her services.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur today, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, from 3 p.m. until the time of her funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be prayed on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
Wanda Kate was born in Little Rock, Ark., to the late Flash Gordon Cormier and the late Nelda Rue LaCombe on December 7, 1958. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baseball (especially the N.Y. Yankees) and NASCAR racing.
Wanda is survived by her beloved husband, George “Dick” Atkinson of Gueydan; two sons, Gordon Ravis Atkinson and Gustav Richard Atkinson of Gueydan; her daughter, Caitlin Michelle Atkinson (Carlon) Campbell of Gueydan; two brothers, Randall (Angela) Cormier of Texas, and their children, Raymond and Joseph Cormier, and Michael (Jan) Cormier of Indiana; one sister, Sonia Thibodeaux of Sulphur and her son, Ryan Hanks, who is also Wanda’s godchild; and a beautiful granddaughter on the way.
Wanda now rests in Heaven with her parents.
Carrying Wanda to her eternal resting place will be Ryan Hanks, Carlon Campbell, Gus Atkinson, Gordon Atkinson, Christopher Impastato, and Brandon Smith.
