West Nile case reported in JDP

A case of West Nile fever was reported in Jeff Davis Parish this week – the first human case reported in this parish this year – while two cases of the neuroinvasive form of the disease were reported in neighboring Calcasieu Parish. As a state overall, Louisiana continues to experience the most West Nile cases since its 2002 outbreak year, with 312 cases and 12 deaths from the disease reported so far this year.

There are four new West Nile Fever cases reported this week, including one Jeff Davis Parish case as well as two cases from Ascension Parish and one case in Livingston Parish. There are five new neuroinvasive disease cases reported this week, including the two from Calcasieu, as well as one case each in Iberia, Lafayette and Orleans parishes.
