The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off a two-game winning streak and hope to keep the momentum rolling Friday night. “I think when you win your last two games going into week 10, you would hope you have some momentum,” coach Rusty Phelps said. “I feel like it has done us some good to go out there and get back on track offensively and defensively. We tell the kids you want to be playing your best football at the end of the year. I think we are starting to jell.”
The Bulldogs will close out the regular season on the road when they face the Iowa Yellow Jackets in a key 4-3A district game. Iowa enters the fray ranked number 8 in Class AAA with an 8-1 regular season record and 3-1 in league play. The Dogs are 6-3 and 2-2. A Yellow Jacket win gives them no worse than sole possession of second place. A Bulldog win gives them a tie with the Yellow Jackets and Westlake if the Rams defeat Crowley. Jockeying for a position in district standings is not the most important piece of the puzzle. The two teams are fighting for power points and a higher seeding in the playoffs. The winner is also hoping to secure an opening round home game in the post season. “It looks like we are playing for a home game. It’s also an opportunity to win another district game and an opportunity for us to carry some momentum into the playoffs,” Phelps said. “The thing we are looking for is to go out and play a really good game offensively, defensively, and special teams.”
