We challenge you to open your heart
It is officially the holiday season. Sometimes it seems Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s are not each single holidays, but two months of family gatherings, cooking, traveling, decorating and shopping.
It’s a good time of year for many of us. We have wonderful families; secure jobs; exceptional health; ample money; and so much more that we often take for granted.
Of course, the holidays always reveal the other side of that coin. So many are struggling to pay for basic needs like food, clothing, transportation and utilities. Some are facing poor health and dealing with mounting medical bills. Many will be alone this holiday season because, for one reason or another, they have no family.
In the coming weeks, you will be seeing more holiday coverage in the Jennings Daily News. Much of this coverage will focus on programs in Jeff Davis Parish and Southwest Louisiana that are working to provide a memorable, happy Thanksgiving and Christmas to people of all ages in our own neighborhoods. Some of these caring groups might be requesting donations of money, food, clothing and/or time for people in desperate need of a blessing – some in need of a miracle.
The Jennings Daily News (JDN) would like to challenge each and every one of you to truly consider what you can do to help these causes. Some of us in the community might have just $1 to spare but many are financially blessed. Sometimes you think your small contribution cannot be enough to make a difference; it does, however, and if each of us do what we can, imagine the blessings we could provide this season.
We all talk about changes that need to be made in society and how people should treat one another. Well, it’s time to put those words in action. Continue reading upcoming editions of the JDN to learn of the many opportunities you have to brighten someone’s life this season. We at the JDN know it is an experience you will never regret.
