Henry Richard
A Mass of Christian burial will be held honoring the life of Henry Richard, 75, on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings.
Mr. Henry passed from this life on Dec. 26, 2012. Mr. Henry will be laid to rest at a later date. Father Charles McMillin will be officiating his services. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, from 4:30 -10 p.m. and will resume on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 8 a.m. until the time of his services.
Mr. Henry was born in Grand Chenier on March 31, 1937, to the late Effie Nunez Richard and the late Aldis Richard. He was a graduate of Cameron High School Class of 1954. He worked for P.H.I. for 38 years as a mechanic. He later worked for the City of Jennings as a crossing guard at OLI Catholic School for 10 years. He loved watching over the kids. Even after his job ended he continued watching over the children. He greeted every passer-by with a friendly smile, a wave and a thumbs up sign. He was voted Citizen of the Year in 2004 for the City of Jennings. Mr. Henry loved to read and watch wrestling. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He especially loved playing with his great granddaughter.
He is survived by the love of his life of 49 years, Mona Richard of Jennings; one son, Reginald (Robin) Richard of Lake Charles; two daughters, Rhonda (Frank) Breaux of Jennings and Melody Steele of Zachary; one adopted daughter, Peggy Blanchard; two brothers Freddie Richard of Lake Charles and Alton Richard of Cameron; one sister, Mary Ruth Nevels of Mississippi; 11 grandchildren, Tony Roberts, Aerial, Shadd, Katelyn and Tyler Richard, Cassondra and Aliceyn Sonnier, Kendal and Markis Breaux, and Chasity Blanchard and Brian Cormier Jr. Mr. Henry also had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Mr. Henry now rest in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Aldis and Effie Richard; two brothers, Dulva and Aldis Jr.; and two sisters, Marylan and Emma.
Carrying Mr. Henry to his final resting place will be Tyler Richard, Shadd Richard, Frank Breaux, L.J. Guilbeaux, Lawrence Mallett and Michael Sonnier. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Roe and Mathias Saltzman.
