Local Veteran Thanks JHS
Dear Editor,
On Nov. 8, Jennings High School held its Veterans Day program. We listed to speakers and the Jennings High band was great. Veterans were asked to stand as each branch of the service was called out.
I was really proud to stand with the Briggs brothers when the Army was called out. Brothers George and Norman are WWII veterans. If not for them and thousands of other vets in WWII, the United States would not exist.
I’ve known George and Norman for most of my life. Mr. George consoled my family when my little sister died when he worked (at a local funeral home). Mr. Norman was my first sergeant in the National Guard when I had a few months left after I returned from Vietnam. He helped me back into civilian life.
Thanks to Jennings High for a really great program.
WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwaitt, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans all had things in common. We were all young, far from home and we loved our country very much, enough to die for it.
Sincerely,
Hubert Clement Jr.
