New district classifications released

BATON ROUGE – The LHSAA has spoken and district assignments have been completed for the next two seasons – maybe! As usual, each classification of school from class C to Class 5A has been divided into districts. In our area, that affects Class 3-A with the Jennings Bulldogs and the Iota Bulldogs being our local representatives; class 2-A with Welsh and Lake Arthur competing in that classification; class 1-A being represented by Elton and Basile; locally and class B having Lacassine, Hathaway and Midland.

The “maybe” part comes from the fact that there is once again talk abroad about splitting public schools away from schools that have some mechanism in place to control their own enrollments. Whether that will come to pass is anyone’s guess, but considering what I personally witnessed in my 18 years as an administrator, I certainly wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen anytime soon. (Just as a side note, all seven state championships this year in football were won by schools that control their enrollment in one form or another.)
