Scam victim encourages others to come forward

When Velma Hampton of Lake Charles received a phone call promising her grant money from a reparation lawsuit, she did not realize that she was becoming the next victim of a scammer she says used her religious faith to convince her to give up her hard-earned cash.
“It sounded like a legit person, they were talking about how God was making sure the slave reparations were being given out to people in our area,” Hampton said.
