Free tax preparations available

Crowley – The ASSIST Agency, Inc., will be preparing tax returns at no charge for low income individuals and families in Acadia, Jeff Davis and Vermilion parishes, beginning Jan. 22.  Appointments for this tax season are now being accepted for Mondays and Wednesdays and walk-ins will be seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To make an appointment, please call one of the following:  Acadia Parish residents, (337) 788-7550, ext.138; Jeff Davis Parish, 824-7800; or Vermilion Parish, (337) 898-9554.

The ASSIST’s tax preparers are trained by the IRS and can file a return electronically. Earned Income Tax Credits for those who qualify can result in a larger return.  By filing electronically, one can expect their tax refund in as little as 10 – 14 days.

“Last year we had two families who each qualified for over $9,000 in Federal and State refunds.  We would like to help everyone get the largest refund possible at no charge,” said Edna Semar, community services director.
