Heavy rains in parish bring flooding, street closures

Daily News Staff Report

Heavy rains over the last 24 hours caused flooding and street closures in some areas of the parish.

Jennings Police Chief Todd D’Albor said as of this morning, all streets in Jennings are open for travel. However, he warns all drivers to proceed with caution.

“There is still a lot of standing water around the city,” D’Albor said. “If you don’t have to travel, please don’t, and keep watch for standing water.”

Water caused a headache for officials and motorists, flooding several streets and highways. La. 97 in Evangeline near La. 100 (clockwise from top) had nearly a mile of the roadway under water; rains caused a sinkhole on Bert Road north of Hathaway; the Mermentau River crept over the road at Castex Landing; and much of Simeo Road in Evangeline was flooded.
