It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jim” Miller announces his passing from this life on Jan. 20, 2013, while in the comfort of his home in Gott’s Cove. He was 70 years old.

Funeral services to honor his life will be held at Miller French Baptist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at 12 p.m. He will be laid to rest in  Miller French Cemetery with Br. Garland Reed, Br. Claude Fontenot and Br. Gary DarDar officiating his services.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, from 3 p.m. until midnight. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Miller French Baptist Church at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral service.

James, known to all his family and friends as “Jim”, was born in Evangeline to the late Rufus Miller and the late Zelline Cormier Miller on Sept. 12, 1942. He served his country honorably in the Louisiana Army and National Guard. He was the administrator of the National Guard Armory in Jennings for 22 years. Jim was a custodian for Miller French Baptist Church and also played the piano for Miller French Church and also First Baptist Church in Evangeline. Jim was also a Sunday school teacher. He loved working in his garden and sharing his vegetables with others. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard. Jim also spent much of his time meeting the needs of the elderly.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Verbie Gotte Miller of Gott’s Cove; his son, Jodie Ray Miller of Baton Rouge; one brother, Gerald (Brenda) Miller of Gott’s Cove; and his three sisters, Faye (Louis Jr.) Patin of Gott’s Cove, Hazel (Herb) Touchet of Jennings, and Lucille Morvant of Gott’s Cove. Jim also leaves behind many wonderful friends who were blessed to have known him.

Jim now rest in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Rufus and Zelline Miller; his son, Jared Ross Miller; and two sisters, Mary Lou Beaubouef and Leona Mae LeVrier.
