LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for Mr. Jerry W. Doland, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in Lake Arthur United Methodist Church with Rev. LaMarylis Cotton officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur.
Funeral home visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, and will resume Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., then from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Doland died at 11:45 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at his home in Lake Arthur.
Mr. Doland was a lifelong resident of Lake Arthur. He was a four-year letterman on scholarship for the McNeese basketball team and was Most Valuable Player his senior year. He was an LAHS Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. Upon completion of college, he returned to Lake Arthur after military service and worked with his father at the Lake Arthur Lumber Company. He retired as owner of Lake Arthur Lumber Company in 1992. Mr. Doland’s hobbies included tennis, fast-pitch softball, and he was an avid hunter. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited Chapter; former Lions Club and the Lake Arthur Rod and Gun Club Member; and was very involved in McNeese State University.
He is survived by one daughter, Laura Albright of Baton Rouge; two sons, Peter Doland and Michael (Joelyn) Doland, all of Lake Arthur; one sister, Yvonne Bills of Kerrville, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Craig Doland, Tracey Doland Duhon, Elizabeth Doland, Heidi Doland, Scott Doland and Gabrielle Doland.
Honorary pallbearers will be his close friends, Bob Murray, Dick Miller, David Clayton, Malon Dobson, Tommy Lee Smith, Aubrey Wade, and grandson Preston Albright.
