Ulysses Fontenot Jr.
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Ulysses “Captain” Fontenot Jr. announces his passing on Jan. 1, 2013, while in a local hospital. He was 83 years of age.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. honoring his life at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings. Mr. Fontenot was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation was held today, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings.
Ulysses, known to his family and friends as “Captain”, was born in Jennings to the late Ulysses Fontenot Sr. and the late Dorina Deshotel Fontenot on Sept. 10, 1929. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, Ulysses worked in the wood-working business and he enjoyed working on his own sawmill. He also loved working on his train and boats. He was an animal lover and he especially loved his cats. He enjoyed hunting and spending time taking care of his family.
Ulysses is survived by his two sons, LeRoy Alfred (Susan) Fontenot and Renee James Fontenot, both of Evangeline; his five daughters, Dorina Marie Fontenot of Evangeline, Diana Marie (Ray) Dupuis of Jennings, Evelyn Eva Fontenot of Gueydan, Annette Sue Fontenot of Houma and Lisa Grace (Randy) Gotte of Evangeline; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Ulysses now rests in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Ulysses Sr. and Dorina D. Fontenot; his wife, Rosebelle LaCombe Fontenot; one son, Russel Louis Fontenot; his four brothers; and two sisters.
