Elbey Joseph Miller

The family and friends of Elbey Joseph Miller are grieving for the loss of their loved one. Mr. Elbey was called to his Heavenly Father on February 19, 2013, while doing what he loved, working in his yard. He was 79 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings to honor his life. Mr. Elbey will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery of Evangeline following his service. Rev. Gary Dar Dar will be officiating.

Elbey was born in Millerville to the late Ulyess and Azeline Pete Miller on Sept. 5, 1933. He was a retired contract gauger for a petroleum company. He loved to cook and visit with family and friends over coffee in his outdoor kitchen. He had his coffee in his outdoor kitchen every morning. Elbey also enjoyed gardening and taking care of his animals.

Elbey is survived by his beloved wife with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August, Velma Menard Miller of Jennings; his son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Faye Miller of Panchoville; two daughters, Gwen Miller of Evangeline and Trudy M. (Fred) Crochet of Gott’s Cove; eight grandchildren, Lisa Fontenot, Bo, Blake and Trent Crochet, Roxane Fontenot, Emily Bertrand, and Amber and Ross Miller; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Elbey now rests in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Ulyess and Azeline P. Miller; his three brothers, Florence, Jesse and Sidney Miller; and his two sisters, Burcy Bergeaux and Margaret McFarlain.

Carrying Elbey to his eternal resting place will be Bo, Blake and Trent Crochet, Ross Miller, Dwain Fontenot, Dustin Bertrand and Patrick Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will include Fred Crochet, Mike Gotte, Grady Pellisser, Darrell Crochet and Greg Schneider.

A gathering of family and friends will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, from 3-9 p.m. and will resume on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings .
