Ellis David Lormand
Our beloved Ellis David Lormand passed away gently into the arms of Jesus on Feb. 8, 2013, while in the comfort of his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was 79 years old.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held to honor his life at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. Mr. Lormand will be laid to rest in Bertrand Cemetery where he will be honored with full military rites. Father Anthony Fontenot will officiate his services.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, from 1:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.
Ellis David was born in Morse to the late Thomas Lormand and the late Sadie Henry Lormand on Aug. 29, 1933. He was a graduate of Morse High School Class of 1954 and attended USL where he earned his bachelor degree in teaching in 1958. On Dec. 6, 1958, Ellis married the love of his life, Joyce Gary, and they began their beautiful journey through life together. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. During the first 5 years, Ellis started his teaching career at Goretti Catholic School then transferred to Jennings High School in 1967 until his retirement in 1989. He was a wonderful teacher and devoted his life to educating our community’s young people. He made many wonderful accomplishments in his life and he inspired many. Ellis was a faithful parishioner of his Catholic faith and a living example of God’s grace to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a Eucharistic minister. He was also an avid member of the Tongues of Fire Prayer Group. Ellis loved spending time with his family, reading books and going fishing and shrimping. He always had the most beautiful gardens. He enjoyed watching football and he was LSU’s number-one fan. His family and friends will always cherish the time God gave them to spend with him.
Ellis is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joyce Gary Lormand of Jennings; his five children, Ricky (Terri) Lormand of Dallas, Texas, Mark Lormand of Crowley, Geralyn Lormand of Jennings, Michelle (Hunter) Granger of Jennings, and Rachel (Keith) Clement, also of Jennings; his eight grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Jolley and Brett Lormand, all of Dallas, Texas, and Nicholas Granger, Hayden Granger, Karter Granger, Kourtney Clement, Keigan Clement and Kenzie Clement, all of Jennings; his two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Tyler Jolley of Dallas, Texas; and one brother, Norris (Dorothy) Lormand of Morse.
Ellis now rests in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Thomas and Sadie Lormand; his granddaughter, Melissa Lormand; his in-laws, Henry and Amelia Gary; and one sister-in-law, Judy Gary Jackson.
Carrying Ellis to his eternal resting place in Bertrand Cemetery will be Ricky Lormand, Keith Clement, Keigan Clement, Nicholas Granger, Carlton Clement and David Clement. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayden and Karter Granger.
