Hillard Bertrand
Our beloved Hillard “Slim” Bertrand passed away gently at his home while surrounded by his loving family into the arms of the Lord on Feb. 7, 2013 at the age of 57.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings with Deacon Bennett McNeal officiating his services. Slim will be laid to rest in Bertrand Cemetery.
Known to all his family and friends as “Slim”, he was born in Eunice to Julia LeBleu and the late Estherword Bertrand on June 30, 1955. He worked as an electrician for Watson Electric since 1982 before completing his career due to illness. Slim earned the profound respect of his fellow employees, all of whom he held in high regard. He was a very hard worker and many admired his ingenuity and vast array of skills. He made many wonderful accomplishments in his life and he inspired many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to old music and working. Slim will be greatly missed and loved by those who loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Patricia Ann Morvant Bertrand of Jennings; his mother, Julia LeBleu Bertrand of Eunice; one son, Jason (Joni) Bertrand of Leonville; his daughter, Kaitlyn Bertrand of Jennings; and his three beautiful grandchildren, Drason, Mason and Grason Bertrand. Slim also leaves behind to cherish his memories three brothers, Bobby Bertrand of Elton, Bert Bertrand of Basile, and Jimmy Bertrand of Beaumont, Texas; and his three sisters, Sandra LaSage, Glenda Adkins and Nancy Clavier, all of Eunice.
Slim now rests in Heaven with his beloved father, Estherword Bertrand, and one sister, Esther Aguillard.
Carrying Slim to his eternal resting place in Bertrand Cemetery will be Jason, Drason, Bert and Jimmy Bertrand, Johnny Watson and Ricky Duhon. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Tiedeman, T.J. LaSage and Kenneth Bellard.
A gathering of family and friends will be held today, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from 3-10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2013, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral services.
