Mardi Gras kicked off in Lake Arthur Saturday with a full line-up of events, including a parade, a country Mardi Gras courir and more. In Elton, young folks got a chance to chase chickens in the annual Children’s Mardi Gras Run on Saturday.

More Mardi Gras festivities are scheduled for this upcoming weekend in Jennings and Hathaway. On Friday, at 9:30 a.m., the public is invited to watch Save the Children, Head Start’s second annual Mardi Gras Parade. Then on Saturday, doors open at 11 a.m. for the annual Cajun Squeezebox Shootout Accordion Championship at the Strand Theatre in Jennings. Admission for adults is $7 and children under 12 get in free. Following the competition, the city will hold their Mardi Gras celebration with a parade at 4:30 p.m., followed by a live performance by the Pine Leaf Boys at 6:30 p.m. in Founder’s Park.

Also, the Grand Marais Mardi Gras will make its way through Jennings on Saturday and the Hathaway/Panchoville area on Sunday. The public is invited to get a glimpse of a traditional Mardi Gras run.
