Matthew Joseph Myers
CROWLEY – Funeral services for Matthew Joseph Myers, Sr., 88, of Mermentau, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, Crowley. Interment will follow in Estherwood Cemetery, Estherwood.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley, with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 8 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Mr. Myers passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in a Jennings hospital.
A native of Estherwood, Mr. Myers was a lifelong resident of Mermentau. He retired as a welder from Leevac Shipyard (formerly Zigler Shipyard) after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed gardening, and his greatest joy was spending time with and caring for his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Lydia Benoit of Hathaway, Lee Ethel (Norbit) Morvant of Little Chenier, and Lorraine (Johnny) Hebert of Jennings; a son, Matthew (Connie) Myers Jr. of Sulphur; his sisters, Gladys Pourciaux of Estherwood, and Grace (Wilford) Comeaux of Estherwood; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mr. Myers in death were his wife of over 60 years, Zora LaMaire Myers; his parents, Henry and Hattie Smith Myers; a daughter, Linda Martin; a granddaughter, Selena Martin; a brother, Mason Myers; and a sister, Dorothy Cormier.
