Swim or Go East
Dear Editor,
A person can travel from Mermentau east twenty miles to Crowley on Hwy. 90 in a heavy flood, but traveling the five miles from Mermentau to Jennings is a no go.
This is because of a highway fault that doesn’t make sense. It’s just a dip in the highway that is very foolish just before one tries to exit on Hwy 1126 west, but the water streams over the roadway enough that you can’t get to Hwy 1126 to go to Jennings.
The other is about two hundred feet further west. It crosses a very small swamp and dips down to serve as drainage also.
Logic is a shame as one tries to explain the need for either to drain the swamp.
The two appear as a special handicap to traffic that was created to appease water bugs rather than autos. Or maybe they are the result of an intoxicated surveyer trying to appease fish not flesh.
