Winona Faye Sarver Duhon
Joint funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Ebenezer Church of the Nazarene for Winona Faye Sarver Duhon, 84, who passed away on Feb. 17, 2013, at 10:50 a.m., and her husband, Jewel Lester Duhon, 90, who passed away Feb. 18, 2013 at 4:45 am.
Reverend Dale Hoffpauir, pastor of Nouvelle Church of the Nazarene, and Reverend Joe Talhelm pastor of the Ebenezer Church of the Nazarene, will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Duhon, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Presley Sarver and the former Frances McCall. Winona was born in Crowley and raised in Ebenezer. She was a 1946 graduate of Crowley High School and attended SLI (UL Lafayette) where she met Lester, a WWII veteran, whom she married in July of 1946. She lived in several places in Louisiana until settling permanently in Lafayette in 1955. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary in July. She was a committed Christian, dedicated wife, mother, sister and a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed reading, communicating with her friends and family, and giving medical advice to everyone in her family, including her daughter, Denise, who is a medical doctor. She was also a caring and patient caregiver for her husband in the years that he suffered from heart failure until she became ill with terminal cancer.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Duhon (John) Nobles of Woodstock, Ga., Denise (Mario Smith) Duhon of Yorktown, Va., and Dianna Duhon (Tab) Faulk of Mermentau; one son, David Lester (Roxanne) Duhon of Hattiesburg, Miss.; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan Duhon, Leah Duhon Ladner, Sarah Duhon, Jessica Nobles, Rebecca Nobles, Rachel Nobles, Kirk Smith, Julia Smith, Stephen Smith, Lauren Green, Daniel Green and Brittany Green; two great grandchildren, Cecilia and Les Duhon; and one brother, Robert “Buddy” (Bonnie) Sarver of Jennings.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, from 4-9:00 p.m. Visiting hours will continue at the Ebenezer Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
