Board delays decision on teacher cuts

By SHEILA SMITH

Assistant Editor

The Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) School Board has tabled a motion that would eliminate at least 13 teaching positions in local schools.

The plan would eliminate music, art and French teachers in JDP elementary schools, as well as certain Response to Intervention (RTI) positions paid for through the board. JDP Superintendent of Schools David Clayton said RTI coaching positions funded through the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) Grant would not be affected. Also, band director positions would not be eliminated.
