Former police chief’s arraignment reset

A court arraignment date has been reset for later this month for a former Jennings police chief accused of stealing items from the evidence room.

According to Jeff Davis District Attorney Michael Cassidy, Johnny Lassiter, 52, was charged in January with theft over $1,500, malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice and injuring public records. Lassiter was initially due in court this past Friday, March 1. However, Cassidy said the arraignment date was reset for 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 28.
