Ira William Searle Jr.
GUEYDAN – The family and friends of Ira William “Bill” Searle Jr. are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life and into the arms of Our Lord on March 11, 2013, at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be held to honor his life at Gueydan High School Auditorium on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. Bill will be laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 4-9 p.m. and resume at the Gueydan High School Auditorium on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. until the time of his funeral services.
Ira William, known to his family and friends as “Bill”, was born in Jennings to the late Ira William Searle Sr. and the late Anna Lopez Searle on Dec. 6, 1928. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he pursued his love of the land and became a farmer. Bill made many accomplishments in his life including serving 17-1/2 faithful years on the Vermilion Parish School Board, the Vermilion Parish Soil Conservation Board, and the Vermilion Parish Bank Board. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Farm Bureau and Gueydan Booster Club. He was honored by his peers as Mardi Gras King and the Duck Festival Honoree. No time on Earth is long enough to share with those we love or to prepare our hearts for goodbye. Bill’s love and light will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Caldonia Campbell Searle of Gueydan; his son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Janice Searle of Scott; one daughter, Debra S. (Bill) Maxey of Beaumont, Texas; his six grandchildren, Kristen (Charlie) Wemyss, Scott (Karson) Maxey, Julie Maxey, Blake Searle, Connor Searle and Tyler Searle; and his five great-grandchildren, Austin Wemyss, Tanner Wemyss, Reid Wemyss, Mallory Maxey and Will Maxey.
Carrying Bill to his eternal resting place will be Scott Maxey, Blake Searle, Pep Lopez, Hampton Campbell, Charlie Wemyss and Neil Harrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gueydan High School.
