Relay luminaries now available

When the people of Jeff Davis join together to celebrate life at the 2013 Relay for Life in Lake Arthur, those who have fought their own battles with cancer will shine a light on the walking path.

Part of the fundraising for Relay for Life comes from the sale of luminaries, simple white bags that are used to honor cancer survivors and patients, and those who fought the battle until their death. Loved ones might simply write a cancer warrior’s name on the bag or add elaborate decorations to the bag. Relay volunteers fill each bag with a little sand for weight, followed by a single candle. On Relay night, which falls this year on Friday, April 19, at the Lake Arthur Beach, the luminaries will line the boardwalk. During a special luminaria ceremony, supporters light the candles, and the luminaries light the Relay path.
