It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wilford “Bill” Chapman announces his passing from this life and into the arms of the Lord on March 26, 2013 at the age of 77.
Funeral services honoring the life of Bill will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. Bill will be laid to rest in Pine Hill Cemetery in Iowa following his services. Mr. Jack Harris will officiate.
Visitation will begin today, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 5-9 p.m., and will resume on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings.
Wilford, known to all his family and friends as “Bill”, was born to the late Arse Chapman and the late Odelia Ardoin Chapman on August 4, 1935. Bill served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for the Department of Transportation until his retirement. He enjoyed working in his yard and doing landscaping work. He was a member of First Church of Christ.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Adams Chapman of Jennings; two daughters, Kathleen Bailey of Jennings and Marie Chapman of Tulsa, Okla.; one stepson, Billy Vancleve of Moss Bluff; his two stepdaughters, Rhonda (Brian) Smith of Jennings and Jackie (John) Harris of Houston, Texas; one brother, Hubert (Dottie) Chapman of Houston, Texas; his sister, Joyce (Calvin) Courville of Welsh; his five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Arse and Odelia A. Chapman; and three of his brothers, Wilbert Chapman, Edwin Chapman and Charles Chapman.
Carrying Bill to his eternal resting place in Pine Hill Cemetery will be Brian Smith, John Harris, Richard Miller, Bud Lege, David Bowers and Calvin Courville. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Davis, Byron Davis, Calvin Broussard and Clifton Miller.
