Help us honor the motherhood workforce
What’s so special about Mother’s Day?
It’s your mother, silly!
And why not take the time to show her just how special she is by sharing your story with the Jennings Daily News?
Next month, mothers throughout the world will be honored, and for good reason.
Almost every mother is overworked and underpaid. In addition, very few mothers receive the recognition they deserve.
On Sunday, May 12, the Jennings Daily News wants to help deliver that much-deserved recognition through our annual Mother of the Year Contest.
So to every mom who has ever had to put a Band-aid on a knee, pack a school lunch, supervise a slumber party, wash a sink full of dirty dishes, read a bedtime story or sing a lullaby, you absolutely deserve a vast assortment of gifts from area merchants!
To the moms who help their children write those book reports, study for that history exam, construct the volcano-erupting science project or call out those nightly spelling words, why not have your picture published on the front page of your local newspaper.
Here’s how to make that happen: Just tell us in 300 words or less why your mom should be chosen as the 2013 Jennings Daily News Mother of the Year. There is no age limit and any mother in the Jeff Davis Parish area is eligible to win. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.
All entries should be addressed to “Mother’s Day Contest” and dropped off at the Jennings Daily News Office or mailed to P.O. Box 910, North Market Street, Jennings, 70546. Persons submitting the letter must include a name, address and daytime telephone number with their entry.
The winner will then be announced on Sunday, May 12, and will receive a variety of prizes donated by local businesses. A runner up will also be chosen and will receive a prize.
By the way, the nominee does not have to be the mother of the person submitting the letter.
So to all the moms out there who can balance the checkbook, clean the clothes, prepare the homemade dinner and still have the energy to bathe the family dog at the end of the day, we hope to honor you soon.
The endless rides to baseball, basketball, track, karate and dancing practices have not gone unnoticed.
All those hours you have spent carting around screaming kids in the middle of a grocery store have not gone unrecognized.
Let’s just say that an endless thanks goes out to every mother whose entered the motherhood workforce, whether they are proclaimed Mother of the Year or not.
