Investigation launched over poisoned pets

Local authorities are currently investigating several cases of animals that were poisoned by a highly toxic organophosphate in the Gueydan area.

Organophosphates are the basis of many insecticides, herbicides, and nerve gases and are toxic to bees, wildlife and humans.

According to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Senior Agent Derek Logan, possessing organophosphate is not illegal; “but sprinkling this stuff on food and putting the food on the ground so animals will eat it and die is illegal,” he warned.
