On Monday, the state’s House Committee on Commerce backed a proposed law that would ban employers and school officials from demanding access in the form of user names and passwords to the personal online accounts of potential employees or students.

The measure, House Bill 314 by Rep. Ted James, D-Baton Rouge, would prohibit retribution against those who refuse a request for access to their email, Facebook pages and other personal online sites, according to a report by the Associated Press (AP).
