Richard “Alan” Robertson, 24, of Welsh always dreamed of serving in the military, just like his father and his father’s father before him.

Robertson’s dad, James “Stu” Robertson, flew F-18s for the Marines in the Gulf War. His grandfather, Jack Robertson, was a reserve pilot for the United States Marines.

When Alan Robertson graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College in 2011 with a double major in criminal justice and sociology, he decided to start the process of following in his dad’s and granddad’s footsteps, knowing those shoes are some big ones to fill.
