Amos Louis Fontenot
The family and friends of Amos Louis Fontenot are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life and into the arms of Jesus during the early morning hours on May 28, 2013, at the age of 90.
Funeral services honoring Amos’s life will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. He will be laid to eternal rest in Istre Cemetery, where he will be honored with full military rites. Father Charles McMillin will officiate.
A gathering of Amos’s family and friends to bid their final farewell will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 4-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral services.
Amos Louis was born in Jennings to the late Emar Fontenot and the late Marie Jeanne Royer Fontenot on February 11, 1923. He served his country honorably in the Unites States Navy. Following his military service, Amos worked as a meter reader and bill collector for Gulf State Utility Company until his retirement. He enjoyed going fishing. Amos was an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching others the love of the sport.
Amos is survived by his son, Robert “Bobby” (Vickie) Fontenot of Jennings; one daughter, Linda F. (Adrian “Chief”) Robinson of Jennings; and his three grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) McGee, Heather (Brian) Goodeau, and Jared (Beth)Robinson; and six great-grandchildren. Amos also leaves behind to cherish his memories his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Betty Fontenot of Pasadena, Texas, and Eugene and Edna Fontenot of Beaverton, Ore.
Amos was preceded in death by his parents, Emar and Marie Fontenot; his first wife, Virginia Fontenot; his second wife, Elodie Fontenot; and one great-grandson, Taylyn Fontenot.
Pallbearers will be “Boo” Latiolais, Robert Vincent, G. Joe Landry, Kevin McGee, Mitch Fontenot and Jard Robinson.
