Arba Lewis Reed Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Arba Lewis Reed Jr., 86 will be held today, Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 3 p.m. in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jack Harris officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation hours were held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 5-9 p.m. Sunday visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Mr. Reed died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 4 p.m. at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was a native and lifelong resident of the Jennings/Hathaway area. Mr. Reed was a member of the First Church of Christ. He was a farmer and the proprietor of Reed’s I-10 Gulf/Chevron station. He was also an Army veteran, having served our country during World War II in the Pacific theater. Mr. Reed had the kindest of hearts. He dearly loved his Lord and his family.
Mr. Reed is survived by two daughters, Carla Demeritt of Jennings, and Marjorie Veuleman of Katy, Texas; five sons, A.L. (Valerie) Reed of Jennings, Keith (Leslie) Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio, James (Arlene) Weldon of Merryville, Ind., Kirk (Harriet) Weldon of Hathaway, and Joe (Emilia) Weldon of Lafayette; a brother, John (Jean) Reed of Jennings; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a wealth of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Bellard Reed; his second wife, Louise Weldon Reed; his parents, Arba and Amy Valdetero Reed; three sisters, Marjorie “Tootsie” LeJeune, Frances Reed and Melva Lee Reed; and two brothers, William Reed and Jimmy Reed.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Hines, Stephen Reed, Jason Reed, Nicholas Reed, Andy Reed and Robbie LeJeune.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons, Ethan Reed, Jacob Reed, Evan Reed, Seth Reed and Lex Istre.
