Cary Joseph Sonnier
The family and friends of Cary Joseph Sonnier are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life and into the arms of Jesus on July 13, 2013, while in the comfort of his home. He was surrounded by his beloved family whom he loved so dearly. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held in celebration of Cary’s life at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. He will be laid to eternal rest in Calvary Cemetery, where he will be honored with full military rites. Deacon Mike Tramel will officiate his services.
A gathering of Cary’s family and friends to bid their final farewell will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 3:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited by Deacon Bennett McNeal at 6:30 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 2 p.m.
Cary Joseph was born in Church Point to the late Mitchell Sonnier and the late Eve Richard Sonnier on March 27, 1927. Following high school, Cary joined the United States Army where he served and defended his country in WWII earning a World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. After returning home, Cary met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae LeJeune, and they shared 48 beautiful years together and raised five children and three step children. Cary was raised in Jennings most of his life. He was owner of Cary’s General Repair for 44 years. He enjoyed family gatherings, working, and dancing. He also enjoyed playing at the casino where he was very lucky, winning a Dodge Viper and also a motor home. Cary will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grand and great-grandfather.
Cary is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae L. Sonnier of Jennings; three sons, Mitchell Morris (Virginia) Sonnier of Jennings, Cary Steven (Virginia) Sonnier of Mermentau, and Ricky Lynn Sonnier of Broussard; two daughters, Eva Moree Sonnier of Gainsville, Fla., and Jenny Joe (Thomas) Johnson of Iowa; two stepsons, Wayne Joseph (Christina) Lopez of Lake Arthur, and Mark Joseph Lopez of Jennings; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Ann Lopez (Bill) Carrier of Sulphur; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Cary now rest in Heaven with his beloved family who preceded him in death: his parents, Mitchell and Eve R. Sonnier; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Cary Sonnier and Noah Wayne Pellerin.
