Rolling Stone rocks public with cover choice

Daily News Staff Report

A Rolling Stone cover story on Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hit the stands Friday, but some retailers are refusing to carry the issue while others refuse to read it.

The cover of the magazine’s Aug. 1 edition is a photo in which Tsarnaev looks more like one of the rock stars that usually grace it than a suspect in the April 15 bombings at the marathon finish line that killed three and wounded more than 260. The story by contributing editor Janet Reitman traces how “a bright kid with a charming future became a monster.”

Rolling Stone magazine elevated Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to rock star status on its most recent cover but many feel the publication should have featured the faces of his alleged victims, as evidenced by altered images of the cover floating around the internet.
