City hopes to breathe new life into Main Street

Excitement over the projected new city hall location in the Allwest building is apparent in many residents of the downtown area. Yet, there are still many vacant buildings being unused in the downtown strip.

According to Mayor Terry Duhon, the city is trying to use the excitement of the renovations to encourage local and outside interest groups to capitalize on the opportunity to build a thriving downtown. “We would like to attract Mom and Pop shops,” Duhon said, “and let the chain stores stay near the interstate.”
