Daily News Staff Report

The state’s job numbers for this past year have been released. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Louisiana’s private sector added 29,600 jobs in the 12 months that ended in July. BLS calculates that sectors adding the most jobs over the year were construction, up 9,100; trade, transportation, and utilities, up 9,000; and leisure and hospitality, up 4,800. The biggest over-the-year declines were in government, down 6,200; other services, down 1,600; and education and health services, down 900.

In the press release, Curt Eysink, Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director said, “The July numbers show what we have come to expect over the last three years – solid private sector growth, smaller government and growth across most industry sectors. These are all good for our economy.”
