Mrs. Melvin J. (Marlene Jeanette Parsley) Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Melvin J. (Marlene Jeanette Parsley) Smith, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. David Broussard officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 7 a.m. at her residence.
Visitation will be held on Monday Aug. 26, 2013, from 2-9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Evangeline and graduated from Iota High School Class of 1954. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and she enjoyed doing ceramics, going to the casino, and loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Smith of Evangeline; four daughters, Phyllis Lytle and Jessica LeJeune, both of Evangeline, Ellisia Kaye Miller of Monticello, Ark., and Melissa Joann (Joseph) Cormier of Navarre, Fla.; four sons, Edwin James (Alice) Smith, Kevin Dale Smith and Melvin Kyle (Angie) Smith, all of Evangeline, and Joel Neil (Jeanne) Smith of Elizabeth; a sister, Patsy (Donald) Black of Broussard; and four brothers, Archie (Margaret) Parsley, Kelly (Joanna) Parsley, Charlie (Lezia) Parlsey, all of Evangeline, and Darrell (Donna) Parsley of Iota; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lewis and Alamonde Hebert Parsley; a sister, Sarah David; four brothers, Daniel, Joyce, Jimmy and Richard Parsley; a grandchild, Erick Smith; and a great-grandchild, Christopher Bertenot.
