School board looking to replace buses
By SHEILA SMITH
The Jeff Davis Parish School Board will use a remaining $161,000 from state supplemental pay to purchase two new buses.
That money comes from about $800,000 received from state education funding, half of which is required to go to certified public school teachers as a pay increase. In July, the board decided to equally distribute a total of $429,469 to all certified school employees, which includes principals, assistant principals, counselors, teachers and librarians employed with the board as of Nov. 1 of this year. The money will be given as a supplemental check in addition to the regular end-of-month payroll in November. Depending on the number of certified professionals employed at that time, qualified employees are expected to receive $712 each.
