Superintendent of Schools explains school lunch program

Daily News Staff Writer

Earlier this week, the Jennings Daily News reported that federal officials have seen some isolated reports of schools around the country opting out of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The reasons cited for the withdrawal of the reimbursement program is that the healthier meals which include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables were not containing enough proteins and calories to fill students up for a full day.

The public was asked their opinion of the NSLP via the Jennings Daily News’ Facebook page and more than 60 people responded, some positive, but many were quite critical.
