Almeda Gordon Davis
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Almeda Gordon Davis announces her passing from this life on Sept. 10, 2013, while in Landmark Nursing Home of Lake Charles, at the beautiful age of 96.
Funeral services in celebration of Mrs. Almeda’s life will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. Mrs. Almeda will be laid to eternal rest in OLPH Catholic Cemetery. Father Celcius Offor will officiate her services.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 11 a.m.
Almeda was born on Sept. 1, 1917, to the late Willie Gordon and the late Mary Richard Gordon. She was a cook at Jeff Davis High School for many years. She enjoyed seeing the smiling faces of our youth everyday. Mrs. Almeda loved Our Lord and loved attending mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years. She has touched the lives and hearts of many and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Almeda is survived by her children, Betty Hunter of Marrero, Warren Davis of Jennings, and Audrey (Harold) Winey of Lake Charles; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Almeda also leaves behind to cherish her memories one brother, Stafford Gordon of Jennings; and four sisters, Gustavie Breaux of Harvey, Mary Ola Gordon of Jennings, Lula Holden of Houston, Texas, and Mildred Chavalier also of Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Almeda now rests in Heaven with her parents, Willie and Mary R. Gordon; her husband, Joseph Davis; one son, Donald Davis; a brother, Willie Roy Gordon; two sisters, Hazel Gordon and Thelma Collins; and a son-in-law, Joseph Hunter.
